Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is the differentiated circuit?

It is the new baggage control system implemented by Peruvian Customs in order to simplify the entry process of people arriving in the country.
Its main feature is the installation of two circuits that all travelers must go through depending on the baggage that they bring:

  • Green Circuit - Nothing to declare: For those people who carry goods, merchandise and/or money, in amounts that by law do not need to be declared
  • Red Circuit – Goods to declare: For those people who bring goods, merchandise and/or amounts of money that are required by law to be declared.

Who determines the control circuit?

The choice will be made by the traveler, according to the goods, merchandise and/or amounts of money that he/she brings with him/her. To do this, the traveler should read carefully the information contained in the new Baggage Declaration.

What has changed in the new Baggage Declaration?

In the new Baggage Declaration, the information has been separated according to each control circuit:

  • On the green side corresponding to the Green Circuit - Nothing to declare, there is a list of goods, merchandise and/or amounts of money which by law do not need to be declared.
  • On the red side corresponding to the Red Circuit – Something to declare, there is information on goods, merchandise and/or amounts of money that, by law, must be declared.

It is very important that the travelers read carefully the information contained in the Baggage Declaration, so that they can determine which control circuit they should go through.

Airlines and Customs staff are obliged to deliver the Baggage Declaration form to all people arriving in Peru from abroad.

Who should complete and submit the Baggage Declaration form?

Only people who bring goods, merchandise and/or amounts of money referred to in the red side of the form: Red Circuit - Something to declare, should complete and submit the Baggage Declaration form.

Taking into account that the Customs authority is entitled to revise, register and examine travelers and/or their baggage at any time during the control process, even when the Green Circuit has been selected, if undeclared goods or money is detected, it will be subject to seizure or retention.
To recover goods or money, the traveler must pay a fine and the corresponding taxes, in addition to complying with legal requirements

Important: Prohibited goods cannot be recovered; however, they may be re-embarked.

What should people who are not required to submit the Baggage Declaration do with the form?

They may return it to the crew or customs staff, or they may keep it as information material.
